Mrs. Ava Harris Lee, 86, of Clinton passed away on January 14, 2017 at Sampson Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born on April 28, 1930 in Greensboro, NC to the late William Thomas and Janie Challender Harris. She married the love of her life, Albert Layton Lee, on January 10, 1948.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Ann Burgess (Vincent); two sons: Terry Lee (Rosemary) of Clinton and Billy Lee (Gwen) of Maryland; eight grandchildren: Lori Baker (Rob) of Raleigh, Vince Burgess (Ingrid) of Wrightsville Beach, Martha Ann Schwaninger (Michael) of Maryland, Sarah Lee of Dunn and her mother, Martha Bradshaw of Clinton, Elizabeth Lee of Clinton, Katie Lee of Maryland, Justin Kornegay of Clinton and Andrea Lanier of Burgaw; two sisters: Thelma Brown (David) and Faye Garvey (Earl) of Clinton; and one brother, Bud Harris of Charlotte. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Olivia Bass of Wilmington, Gregg Bass of Raleigh, Anna and Ben Burgess of Wrightsville Beach, Caleb Baker of Georgia, Brandy Baker of Florida and one great-great granddaughter, Ava Rose Vernon.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Gregory Layton Lee, a grandson Brian Bradshaw Lee, brothers Bill and Sonny Harris, sisters Patsy Moore, Ann Myers and Barbara Stuckey.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thatcher as well as all the nurses and staff at Sampson Regional Medical Center for all their hard work and kindness through her many visits there. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Christian Food Bank of Salemburg, P O Box 134 Salemburg, NC 28385.
