Velva Dean Oliver Obituary

Mrs. Velva Dean King Oliver, 92, of 2501 King Rd., passed away with her loving family by her side Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro.

Born on December 1, 1931 in Sampson County, Velva Dean was the daughter of the late George Robert and Bettie Blanche Lockamy King and the widow of Hugh Kendall Oliver. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas King.

Velva Dean was a proud farmer’s wife, raising their three daughters in Keener and a lifelong member of Keener Methodist Church. She and her husband loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips with family and friends over the years. Special times and wonderful memories were made at her favorite place of all, the family beach house at Surf City. She had a passion for her yard and flowers, and could grow anything. Later in life, she became close to her furry companion, “CoCo”, her devoted Dachshund. She was a wonderful wife, mother and “MeMa” and will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her. Because to know her, was to love her.

Velva Dean is survived by three daughters: Cindy O. Gainey and husband, Ray of Clinton , Betty O. Warren and husband, Leon of Surf City, Becky O. Lockamy and husband, Jimmy of Clinton; six grandchildren: Joshua Warren (Lauren), Justin Warren (Melissa), Thomas Warren, Casey J. Avery (Johnathan), Blair G. Colglazier (Allen), and Leslie G. Wainscott (Trent). She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Ava and Layton Wainscott, Mady and Cooper Avery, Matthis and Nolan Colglazier and Hugh, Olive and Scarlett Warren.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Keener Methodist Church with Rev. Milton Little officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary and other times at her home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center by mailing to 107 Handley Park Ct, Goldsboro, NC 27534; or to Keener Methodist Church c/o June Thigpen 3480 King Rd., Clinton, NC  28328.
