Mrs. Vara Tedder Matthis, 94 of Edmond Matthis Rd., passed away Saturday, August 14th, 2021 at the Wilson House of Wilson, NC.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 2:00PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Ammons officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Clinton Cemetery for the family.
Born on August 16, 1926 in Johnston County, Vara was the daughter of the late Luke Columbus Tedder, Jr. and Victoria Lewis Tedder and was the widow of Amy Thomas Matthis, Sr. Vara was a member of First Baptist Church and attended as her health permitted. She spent many years in banking until her retirement. Vara will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Vara is survived by her daughter, Joyce Adler and husband, Steven of Apex; son, A. Thomas Matthis, Jr. and wife Pamela of Clinton; Three sisters: Sally R. Hill, Mary Jean Scott and Lanie Yvonne Bass all of Wilson; two brothers: Marion V. Tedder of Zebulon and Carlton L. Tedder of Wilson; three grandchildren: Amy Lynn Matthis, Mary Ann Jackson and husband, Andy, and David Adler; two great grandchildren: Parker Jackson and Wiley Scott Jackson.
In addition to her parents and husband Vara was preceded in death by six sisters: Ethel Shepard, Geneva Godwin, Eleanor Scott, Mildred Murphy, Verdie Boykin and Rachel Duke and one brother, Luke Tedder III.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.
