Uda "Ray" Starling Obituary

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9) Ray Starling, 75 of Turkey, NC. Went to be with the Lord on the morning of October 24th, 2023. A memorial service will be held Friday October 27th, at 6:30 pm at Royal Hall Funeral Home Chapel 301 McKoy St, Clinton, NC 28328 with Rev. Jimmy Horne officiating. It’s impossible to summarize the life of a man who was so abundantly full of love and kindness; someone who impacted the lives of so many people. He was a good and honest man that kept his word. A man that served the Lord and his community. He was a man whose work ethic could not be matched. He was loving, devoted and dependable. He was strong, intelligent, caring and above all, funny. His heart’s desire was to help anyone at anytime. Throughout his lifetime he consistently put others before himself. In 1947, the late Uda and Thearine Starling had their first son, Ray. Later followed by James, Kenneth, and the late Timothy Starling. Growing up, Ray was a loving brother, son, and friend. He spent most of his adolescence, working hard on the family farm, studying to support his love of learning, and taking care of his younger disabled brother Timothy. He later became a loving and caring husband to the late and beloved Janie Hobbs. Father to Heather Starling (Eddie), Danielle Starling, and Courtney Monhollon (John) and Uncle to several nieces and nephews; of which, Angela and Tammy being the first of many to get to hear the words “What for? How come? You Don’t need to.” Then he became his most treasured role of all as Papa to the following “Monkeys”: Damien “Sport” Starling, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Melton, Rylee Jarman, Lucas Melton, Patsy Lake Monhollon, Hannah Monhollon, and John “Johnny” Monhollon. After Ray retired from being a Master Electrician, he spent his time being an active and devoted papa, caretaker of his mother, deacon of his church, and supporter of “The girls” AKA his daughters.
