Todd Kinlaw Obituary

Clinton

Todd Ashley Kinlaw passed away at his home in Clinton on August 6 after a long and brave cancer battle. Todd was born June 14, 1970 in New Bern, North Carolina. The son of James RC Kinlaw and the late Janice Rideoutt Kinlaw, Todd grew up in eastern North Carolina and southern Virginia, graduating from Greensville County High School in Warrenton, Virginia in 1988. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Science from James Sprunt Community College and a bachelor degree in Computer Information from Mount Olive College in 1993. Todd worked for Sampson County Schools since 1995, first as a computer lab technician at Midway Elementary School and then as a member of the Technology Department from 1999 to the present.

As a technician and then later as network engineer for the Technology Department of Sampson County Schools, Todd had been known as a hard worker, always putting in extra time to get a job done and always willing to help teachers and staff.

A longtime lover of golf, Todd could frequently be found playing rounds on any day he had away from work. Most recently a member at Timberlake where he was club champion in 2019, Todd enjoyed traveling to play around the Southeast. His favorite times of the year were his birthday, when he, his brother Riley, sister Evelyn, and her husband Dave Walters played the Kinlaw Cup and the week he traveled to play in the Spock Cup with friends Frank Potochney, George Potochney, and Doug Schoenberger. He will be missed by all of his friends who knew him as a gentleman and fair competitor on and off the course but especially by CJ Mercer, Daren Wheeless, and Bill Lynch. Todd was recently celebrated at Timberlake by Sticking It to Sarcoma, a fundraising golf tournament organized by family and friends.

Todd leaves behind wife, Karen, and daughter Riley Kinlaw of Raleigh, father RC Kinlaw of Fuquay-Varina, sister Evelyn (Dave) Walters of Fuquay-Varina, brother Riley (Julie) Kinlaw of Greenville and their daughters Audrey and Melissa.  Todd will be missed by his in-laws, all in Pennsylvania, Glen and Fran Dukes, Jennifer (Fritz) Bleich, Glen (Lisa) Dukes and their daughters Delaney and Teagan (Todd’s Godchild).  Todd was preceded in death by his mother Janice Kinlaw.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 8 am on Sunday (08/09/2020) at Timberlake Golf Club.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to some of the organizations that helped Todd and his family during his cancer battle such as Kellie’s Krew (111 South Railroad Ave, Dunn, 28334) and the Mack D. Foundation (P.O. Box 56, Falcon, 28342).
