Clinton

Mrs. Sarah Ruth Thornton Johnson, 94, formerly of 101 Oakland Blvd, passed away Wednesday, January 29, at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1017 Sunset Avenue, Clinton, with Rev. Dr. Will Matthews and Rev. Michael Shook officiating.  Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born in 1930 in Sampson County, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Ernie and Mittie Strickland Thornton.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee (Hooley) Johnson.  Mrs. Johnson was a retired beautician.

She is survived by her son, Tony Lee Johnson and wife, Carol, of Clinton; two grandchildren, Lisa J. Bass (Cory) and David Lee Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Reece, Lexi, and Paisley Bass, Seth, Tanner, and Azlyn Johnson.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lula M. Parker and Louise Thornton; eight brothers, James Raynell, Ernest Melvin, Richard Arnold, Braston Woodrow, Robert E., Charles Elwood, Carroll, and Harvey Thornton.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Church Sanctuary, beginning at 1:00 PM, and other times at the home of her son at   500 Walking Stick Trail, Clinton.
