Sallie Williams Vann Darden, 94, passed away peacefully in Fayetteville on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
She was born in Cumberland County to the late Andrew and Leonia Bain Williams on December 21, 1928. She loved helping others, and that passion carried on throughout her life as a nurse, with the last twelve years of her career being in the ER at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was a compassionate and professional nurse, but also knew how to be jovial and lighten up a room when she entered. She was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church and involved in many roles in the church, as well as her community, as long as her health would allow. She enjoyed a good joke, and was a great cook, especially pound cakes. She was a wonderful caretaker of her husband, J.B. during his life. More than anything, she adored her family and friends, and spending time with them as much as possible. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her – because to know her, was to love her.
Sallie was preceded in death by her husband James B. (J.B.) “Dick” Darden and siblings, Ethel Propst, Lenore Morris, Bessie Wolff, Alfred Williams, Miles Williams and Council Williams. She is survived by her stepchildren, Denise Darden of Wilmington, Jim Darden of Clinton, Steve Darden of Carrboro, Ron Darden of Fayetteville, nine step-grandchildren and thirteen step great-grandchildren.
