Robert "Steve" Boone Obituary

Robert "Steve" Boone, 64, of Virginia (formerly of Clinton) received his angel wings on April 13, 2021.

Steve was a big man with a big heart and a big smile,  He was loving, caring and a friend to everyone.

Steve was born on April 12, 1957 in Sampson County.  He graduated Union High School in 1975 and loved to play football.  He started his career as a machinist at the Apprentice School in Newport News.  After finishing his four years of apprenticeship, he continued his career at Philips Morris until he retired in 2014.  He enjoyed working at Philip Morris and had a great work family he loved dearly.

Steve enjoyed the simple things in life - spending time with friends and family, building things, and riding his John Deere tractor, Cabota and gardening. He also loved to sit on his back porch with the love of his life, Leola, watching birds, and enjoying his fruit orchard, in his "little paradise" in Virginia.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family:  his wife, Leola Boone;  two brothers: Jerry Boone of Zebulon and John H. Boone and wife Kathy of Gloucester, Virginia; stepson: Chris Pope, wife Katie of Madison, Wisconsin; three children: Robert Stephen “Bobby” Boone, Jr. wife, Katie of Omaha, Nebraska; Sarah Boone of Gainesville, Florida and Katy Boone of Omaha, Nebraska.  One nephew Josh Boone of Chapel Hill; nieces: Brittany Darby and husband Allen of Wilson; Ashley Williams of Roseboro, Allison Boone of Roseboro and Arianna Boone of Gloucester, Virginia. Brother-in-law, Chuck Fleury and sister-in-law, Janet Fleury of Canandaigua, N.Y. Steve loved them all but had an unconditional love for Josh and Brittany.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Very Ann Boone and Ernest W. Boone, brother E. W. Boone and sister-in-law Gaye Boone.

A special thanks to the Duke Brain Tumor Clinic and Duke staff.  To his physical therapists, Dr. Chanel Grant and Rashard Pittman, for working and encouraging him with not only their skills, but their friendship.  To a great neighbor, Ronnie McLellan, who was always there night or day, just a phone call away and a great friend; and to TJ for his ray of sunshine.

Steve’s love, friendship and smile will be greatly missed, but not never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 22nd at 2:00 pm at Ingold Cemetery with Pastor Chris Rooks officiating.
