Richard Haislip Obituary

Mr. Richard L. Haislip 74, of 4710 Hobbton Hwy. Clinton, NC passed away at UNC Health Rex Hospital Raleigh, NC.

Rick loved to be at home better than anywhere else, therefore Rick’s Celebration of Life Service will be held exactly where he was the happiest, at his home, on Friday, June 12, at 3:00 PM with Rev. E.C. Mattocks officiating.  The family welcomes visitors at the home and after the service on Friday we will gather around for fellowship and swap “Ricky Stories”.  Please no suits and ties, just outdoor casual attire, sunglasses, and ice-cold water in hand.  If you are at my house, you are no longer company, you’re comfortable.

Born on October 31, 1951 (a true Halloween baby) in Carteret County. Ricky was the son of the late Leon Henry Haislip and the late Peggy Chesnutt Quick.  He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Linwood Hall.  He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rebecca “Becky” Hall Haislip of the home and a son Richard Paul Haislip, his wife Melissa of Kwajalein Atoll, Grand Marshall Islands.

Those left to cherish his memory, antics, pranks, and” RICKYISMS” are his niece, Georganna Hall Dickens (Curtis), great nieces, Caitlyn and Darden Dickens, of whom he loved to entertain.  Sister-in-Law Joy Spell, Rhonda Hall Stroud, her children, Rev'd Captain Daniel Stroud,  and wife, Lara, great nephews, Charlie, Henry Stroud, Laura Stroud and partner Em Warren, and lots of 1st cousins.

Rick loved playing music on guitar or piano.  One of his proud moments in life was having our “throw together” Blues Band, which included Ricky, Becky, Paul, and lifelong friend and fellow musician, Scott Prestage, win competition in Wilmington, NC and continued to Memphis, Tn. for the International Blues Challenge.  Our unknown, small-town band didn’t bring home the trophy, but the chance to play the Blues on Bealle Street exceeded all our expectations.  Rick’s love of music allowed him the opportunity to earn a comfortable living for 47 years of PIANO & ORGAN REPAIR.  Rick has tuned, turned, twisted, and touched everything about a piano except build one from the bottom up.  He has kept many organs serviced and maintained including B3Hammonds, and tuning PIPE ORGANS.  He was very proud of the business that he and Becky established.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one’s charity.

We have entrusted Royal Hall Funeral Home for their Courteous Service and compassion for caring.
