Rev. William Everett Smith, 94, formerly of Turkey, passed away November 27, 2022 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Born on July 21, 1928 in Sampson County, Rev. Smith was the son of the late Charlie and Betty Bradshaw Smith of Faison, NC. He was the first to enlist and served in the National Guard Reserve in Sampson County. He was ordained in 1955 and pastored many Pentecostal Free Will Baptist churches such as Cora’s Grove PFWB, Dublin PFWB, Beulaville PFWB and Turkey PFWB (retired). He was active in his communities as a Chaplin at various hospitals, visiting the shut-ins and sick in nursing homes. He was a dedicated husband, father, friend and pastor who would help anyone in need. He enjoyed good food, gospel music and fellowship and spending time with his family. He wanted everyone to know they were loved by him. But most of all, he wanted everyone to understand and accept the wonderful gift of eternal life God provided for us through his son Jesus.
Rev. Smith leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 22 years, Elizabeth Ellen Spivey Smith; one son, William Everett Smith, II of Dublin; three daughters: Lorene Smith Vann and husband, Jesse of Bladenboro, Deborah Smith Keller and husband, Alvin of Wade; Betty Smith Dees and husband, Robbie of Gay, Georgia; and one brother, Elwood Smith of Faison. He was also blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, whom he adored.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Joyce Westbrook Smith (47 yrs.); and five sisters: Alice Smith Long, Ludie Waters, Edith Rose Smith Wilson, Mae Smith Cottle, and Ammie Smith Cook.
Royal-Hall is honored to serve the Smith Family.
