Rebecca "Becky" Caison Obituary

Rebecca Kirkland “Becky” Caison, 91, went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2018.

Daughter of the late George Faucette and Nancy O’Briant Kirkland, she was born in Durham, NC on April 21,1926.  She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Johnson Caison; her brothers, George and Robert Kirkland; and her sisters, Nancy West and Janet Tillman.

She is remembered with love and affection by her children: Lawrence Johnson Caison, Jr. (Laura) of Raleigh; Nancy Caison Moore (Kent) of Charlotte and Lucille Caison Sossaman (Alex) of Raleigh.  “Granny” will be missed by Mary Cameron, John, and Kirkland Caison, Katherine Williford (Michael), William (Crystal), and Caison Moore, Benjamin and Lauren Sossaman (great grandchild Jayda), Anna Stone (Alex) and Will Sossaman.  “Aunt Becky” was also cherished by her many nephews and nieces.

Becky enjoyed the love of her family growing up in Durham and learned the value of hard work from her parents.  She loved returning to her home in Durham to visit family and friends. She graduated from East Carolina Teacher’s College in 1947 and moved to Clinton, NC where she taught high school math.  In 1956 she transitioned from teaching high-schoolers to teaching and investing in her own children.

In 1953 she was swept off her feet by Lawrence, to whom she was married for 58 years.  She was his sounding board as he made business and City Council decision, as well as his favorite dance partner.  She managed one of their Clinton businesses, Caison’s Family Mart, for several years and gave their children their first jobs outside the home.  She maintained a beautiful garden, and one of her greatest joys was preparing meals with vegetables from her garden for her family when they would gather at White Lake.

She committed her life to Christ in October of 1971.  It was a transformational turning point in her life and the life of her family.  She deeply loved her Savior, family, and church where she served faithfully.  She received the Fayetteville District United Methodist Church Lay Leader of the Year Award in 1983.   In 1994 she became a teacher of Precept Bible Studies and continued teaching for twenty years, until age 88.

As a loving mother to her three children, she set an example of hard work, dedication to family and faith in God. Her grandchildren will remember Camp SosCaiMor, birthday cards full of personal affirmations and her inspiring Christmas messages, as well as her no-nonsense advice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm, Friday April 13, at First United Methodist Church in Clinton with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
