Myrtis Burgett Westbrook, 87, of 771 Dixie Rd., passed away with her family by her side, Monday, September 1, at Southwood Nursing & Rehab Center.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025 in the Clinton Cemetery with Rev. Mark Fields officiating. The family will have a private viewing prior to the Graveside Services at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.
Born in 1937 in Sampson County, Myrtis was one of thirteen children of the late James Robert and Eliza Jane Branch Burgett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Junior Westbrook of 45 years; seven sisters, Nancy, Ruth, Eula, Marie, Hazel, Lexie, and Mary Letha; and three brothers, Robert, David, and Ellis. She is survived by two sisters, Grey Britt (Alton) of Roseboro, and Carolyn Sessoms (Terry) of Clinton. as well as many nieces and nephews.
Myrtis graduated from Roseboro High School and attended Sampson Community College completing several classes in business. She received her Dental Assistant certification from Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 1965 and worked as Dr. J. B. Powell’s dental assistant for 28 years.
Myrtis was a devoted member of Clinton PH Community Church which she loved and was Administrative Assistant/Secretary for 15 years. She found strength in her faith and in cherished friendships with her family, church family, and in the community. A quote left by Myrtis says:
“What better thing could you say about me than that I left a long trail of people who WERE DEEPLY LOVED BY ME.”
