Mrs. Shirley Ann Hope Tyner, of 545 Pine Ridge Rd., passed away peacefully at her home on the night of her 78th birthday, Monday, May 31, 2021.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, 3790 Faison Hwy, Clinton with Rev. E.C. Mattocks officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Born on May 31, 1943 in Sampson County, Shirley was the daughter of the late James Allen and Thelma McCullen Hope and widow to the late Douglas Nixon Tyner. She grew up in Sampson County and a farmer and homemaker all her life. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowshiping with her church friends. She enjoyed working outside, especially in her flower garden. Shirley was a loving and kind woman who loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind her two sons: Johnny Nixon “Nickie” Tyner and wife, Sherry of Clinton; Gary Tyner of Cary; sisters: Priscilla H. Harrell and husband, Ricky of Garner and Debbie Butler and husband, Larry of Salemburg. She was also blessed with five grandchildren: Nicole Rackley (Josh), Jonathan Tyner (Paula), Kesler Tyner, Hayes Tyner & Brock Tyner; great-granddaughter, Vanna Claire Rackley; great-grandson, Eli Jason Tyner and her soon-to-be great-granddaughter, Ava Kate Rackley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Denny Ray Hope and James Howard Hope.
Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 1pm, and other times at her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church or to Liberty Hospice by mailing donations to 208 Beaman St., Clinton, NC 28328.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Shirley’s home health nurses of Liberty Hospice. She could not have had a more loving and caring staff taking care of her, especially these last couple of weeks.
