Mrs. Margaret Williamson Obituary

With grace, dignity and love, Margaret Sutton Williamson, 95, died peacefully May 11, 2022 with her loving family by her side. She was born September 15, 1926 to John Wesley and Lena McLamb Sutton in La Grange, NC. A matriarch by design, she navigated life with her faith at the helm.

Margaret attended Ingold High School where she was a member of the softball and basketball teams. She continued her love of sports cheering on her children and grandchildren with their respective teams.  She attended Pineville College in Salemburg, NC receiving an Associate degree in Business. She later worked in Norfolk, VA at the Naval base as an Administrative Assistant. After World War II, Margaret returned home to North Carolina.

Margaret married Kermit Dewitt Williamson, Sr. in 1950. She became active in the family business, Farmer’s Hardware, as office manager. Together Margaret and Dewitt had five children. Her passion was her family. She continuously emphasized faith, education, and family.  She was an active member for 66 years at First Baptist Church. After the sudden death of her husband DeWitt, in 1975, Margaret became the nucleus, inspiration, and strength for the family.

She adored her children, in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandson. Her happiest moments were evident when surrounded by family, dining together, playing games, attending sporting events, traveling to the beach and mountains, and visiting and laughing with family and friends. She loved to travel.  Exploring the Holy Land was a highlight of her life adventures. She was a loving, devoted, independent, determined, nurturing Mother who centered her life around faith.

The family would like to thank Mattie Underwood, Val Wright, Mary Williamson, Sharon Jacobs and Zadia McKoy who provided genuine friendship and loving care for Margaret during her years of need.

Margaret is survived by daughters: Debbie Carver (Marvin) Chapel Hill, NC, Paula O’Briant (Thad) Raleigh, NC, Dale Purcell (Mac), Clinton, NC and Wanda Coleman (Joel), Clinton, NC.
