Mrs. Mary Idella "Della" Smith Powell, 91 of 404 Tomahawk Hwy., passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Care in Goldsboro, Tuesday, April 27, 2021 with her family by her side.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 30th at 11:00 AM at Harrells Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Woods , Rev. Roger Wells and Rev. Bill Cotton officiating.
Born on April 21, 1930 in Bladen County, Della was the daughter of the late William Dexter and Mae Ruth Culbreth Smith. She loved her family especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of Center Baptist Church and spent many years with Holt Hosiery as a Seamstress and Slitter. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and loved all types of flowers. To know Della was to love her, and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of seventy-three years, Johnnie A. Powell; two daughters: Betty Grey Wilson (Dural) of Turkey, Mary Powell (Joe) of Watha; four sons: Johnnie Ray Powell, Jimmy Lee Powell (Loretta), William Ashley Powell, Charles Glenn Powell (Karen) all of Harrells; and two sisters: Maxine Cashwell of Elizabethtown and Margie Mathews of Hope Mills. She was also blessed with sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Della was preceded in death by a son, Russell C. Smith; three sisters: Doris Smith, Audrey Smith and Onlee Tatum; brothers: Forris Smith and Eddis Smith; a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Naylor and two of her great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Thursday night from 6 til 8 PM and other times at her home.
