Mr. William Henry “Billy” Owen, Sr., 93, passed away at Sampson Regional Medical Center on January 17, 2022.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Grove Park Baptist Church at 3:00 pm with Rev. Michael Shook officiating. (Facemasks are required). Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 pm, in the sanctuary of the church.
Born on December 27, 1928 in Sampson County, Billy was the son of the late Forest Buck and Ethelyn Cooper Owen. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church, and a Veteran of the United States Army. He owned and operated Wellman Oil Co. and was hard-working and dedicated to his business and his family his entire life. He enjoyed traveling to USSSA softball games, going to the beach and gardening in his spare time. More than anything he loved spending time with his family. He loved them dearly, and he was loved in return. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his two sons: Greg Owen and wife, Melinda of Clinton; William “Pug” Owen, Jr. of Durham; two granddaughters: Nikki Owens and husband, Jeff; Sophia Janet Owen and fiance’, Jackson Stussie; three brothers: Bobby Owen (Emma Gray), Jack Owen and Johnny Owen (Ruth) and one sister, Edna Lou Welch.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife, Sophia Daughtry Owen and second wife, Peggy Stancil Owen.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the Grove Park Baptist Building Fund.
