Mr. William "Bill" Lonnie Thompson, 89, of 3255 Lake Artesia Rd., passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, at his home.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 19 at 4:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Smith officiating. Burial will be held privately in the Calypso Cemetery.
Born on November 28, 1932, in Duplin County, Bill was the son of the late Buck and Effie Thompson. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church, a Veteran of the United States Army, and a First-Class Engineer of Steam Vessels with Exxon Mobil until his retirement. He was a hard-working man who loved his John Deere lawnmower and was very dedicated to his political beliefs. He was a caring man, a loving husband, grandfather, and would help anyone in need.
Bill is survived by his wife, Wanda Thompson of the home; son, William Lonnie Thompson, Jr. of Arizona; sister, Ethel Lanier of Arizona; step-daughter, Staci Hunter of Fayetteville; two step-sons: Terry Mosier of Pikeville, and Cary Mosier of Korea; two grandchildren: Sam Williams, and Melissa Paff; three great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren: Jessica Cooke, Frankie Hughes, Alex Mosier, Sabrina Ader, Adam Ader, Sherry Wilkes, William Mosier, Kathy Wood, Shirley Myers, and Allan Myers; eleven step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two daughters: Vicki Paff and Brenda Thompson; his first wife, Pansy Teachy Thompson and a step-great-granddaughter, Porshe Thomas.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Royal-Hall Funeral Home.
