Mr. Homer Nixton Spell, 76, of Tyndall Grove Rd, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 PM at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Spell-Tyndall Grove Cemetery.
A native of Sampson County, Homer was born on January 24, 1945 to Murphy and Louise Simmons Spell. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church and well-known in his community. Homer owned and operated Spell’s Monuments and took pride in his work. He was a hard-working and compassionate man and was dedicated to helping every family he met through his company. He enjoyed fishing whenever he had the time, especially bass fishing. What he loved most, was spending time with his family, especially his wife, Ilene, who he adored. Homer never met a stranger and was always humble and kind. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Ilene Dudley Spell; his daughters: Melinda Spell Sutton and husband, James; Brenda Jones and husband, Terry; son, Kenneth Spell and wife, Sue; three grandsons: Dustin Spell, Devan Sutton, Matthew Jones; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Spell; and one brother, Jimmy Spell and wife, Louise, all of Clinton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters: Vivian Smith, Linda Britt and Gretta Knowles and a brother, Wayne Spell.
Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 pm; and other times at his home.
