Mr. Charles Abner Gore, of 1292 Browns Church Rd., passed away on Tuesday evening, August 10, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at Grandview Memorial Park on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 am Rev. Michael Shook officiating. There will be an additional tent and seating provided for extended family and guests. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of his daughter, Robbie Williams at 403 Coharie Drive, Clinton.
Born on May 14, 1935 in Sampson County, Abner was the son of the late R.U. “Dude” Gore and Cooper Honeycutt Gore and the widower of Kay Ballard Gore, who was the love of his life. Abner was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College and a Sergeant in the United States Army. After serving his country, he was a teacher and farmer until retirement. Abner was a hardworking, kind gentleman. He was an arrowhead collector, avid reader, historian and fond of traveling with his wife, Kay. More than anything, he loved his family and will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love will live on through them.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, two daughters: Robbie Gore Williams (Todd) of Clinton; Abbie Gore Smitherman (Heath) of Goldsboro; a son, Charles Gore, II of Woodland Hills, California; brother, Jimmy Gore (Bobbie) of Cary and a son-in-law, Jeff Denny of Wake Forest. He was also blessed with six grandchildren: Mabry & Ford Williams, Jack & Brooks Denny, and Hank & Carson Smitherman.
In addition to his parents and wife, Kay, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ramona Gore Denny.
