Mr. Mitchell Dexter “Pedilum” Carter, 83 of 6625 Taylors Bridge Hwy. died at his home Tuesday, September 19, 2023, with his family by his side.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Red Hill Universalist Church with Rev. Chuck Yancey officiating.
Born in 1940 in Sampson County, Pedilum was the son of the late Elbert Thomas and Esther Knowles Carter. He was a retired employee with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. , a member of the Red Hill Universalist Church and a board member. He was Past Master of Hiram Lodge #98 AF & AM. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in Wilmington, Sudan Temple and past President of the Sampson County Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Peggy O. Carter. One son, Mitchell Dexter Carter, Jr. (Jennifer) of Clinton. One granddaughter, Amanda Matthis ( Travis) Two great grandchildren, Landyn Carter and Chloe Matthews . Four step-grandchildren, Lisa Harrison (Jason) Samantha Debose (T.J.) Joanna Hubbard (George) and Jamie Sykes. Eleven Step great grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Ethan, Braxton and River Matthis, Ashleigh and Jase Harrison, Gabby Debose, Ethan Simmons, Vance Simmons, Raylee Hubbard.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Thomas Carter.
The family request no flowers but donations may be made in memory of Mitchell, to Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St. Oxford, NC 27565, Shriners Hospital for Children , 950 W. Farris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605 or to Red Hill Universalist Church, 7031 Taylors Bridge Hwy. Clinton, NC 28328.
The family will receive friends Saturday night, September 23, at Royal-Hall Funeral Home from 6 til 8 PM and other times at his residence.
