Maxine Matthis Matthews, 89 of 120 Southwood Dr., died Friday, January 1, 2021 at Mary Gran Nursing Center, Clinton, NC. Born on March 23, 1931 to Oscar Lee Sr. and Sudie Mae Peterson Matthis.
An Entombment service will be held Monday, January 4, at 2:00 PM at Grandview Memorial Park with Rev. Cameron Dunn officiating.
Maxine was a 1951 graduate of Pineland College of Salemburg, a member and choir member of Grove Park Baptist Church which she loved. She spent six years as Youth Director of the Eastern Baptist Association. Maxine was also a 1981 Welcome Wagon hostess, 1994 graduate of Sampson Community College, former bookkeeper of Clinton Truck & Tractor Company and a substitute teacher of Sampson County Schools.
Maxine was the widow of Aaron Max Matthews. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Wilbert Matthis and wife, Winnie Mae Wells, “A.T” Matthis, “O.L.” Matthis, Jr. and Luvy Matthis and wife Wilda Faye Johnson. Three Sisters: Bertha and husband, Lawrence Matthis, Myrtis and husband, Alton Ezzell and Callie and husband, Willie Carr.
Survived by sisters-in-law, Vara and Annette Matthis. Maxine loved everybody and always considered helping others an honor.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ingold Baptist Church, 1500 Lisbon Bridge Rd., Garland, NC. or Grove Park Baptist Church, 609 Northeast Blvd Clinton, NC 28328. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Mary Gran Nursing Center for their excellent care and support during this time.
