Marcus Wynn Faulkner, age 81, of Clinton, North Carolina passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his life, Asencion “Concha” Faulkner, and his girls, on Monday, December 19th, 2022.
A Funeral Service to honor his life will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matthew Creech and Rev. John Adderly officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Grandview Memorial Park. Visitation with family and friends will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00, at the funeral home.
Marcus, one of seven siblings, was born in Duplin County on July 11, 1941, to Guy and Rachel Faulkner. As a child, Marcus loved imitating his favorite western heroes Gene Autry and Roy Rogers while playing ‘cowboys and Indians with his siblings and cousins. He also loved chocolate cake and biscuits. As Marcus grew, so did his love of country. At age 17, he enlisted in the US Army and his high school graduation commenced on a ship in the pacific ocean en route to Korea.
Upon returning to the states Marcus was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX and one night was ‘out in the west Texas town of El Paso, he fell in love with a Mexican girl’. Marcus and Asencion “Concha” would wed and be married for 60 years. Those years were filled with laughter, travel and lots of tacos. In 1963 they welcomed daughter Maria (Susie) before returning to North Carolina where they would remain. That was the proudest day of his life.
After returning home, Marcus worked and eventually would retire from the US Postal Service. In 1991, he welcomed his first granddaughter, Rachel and earned his favorite title and one he would be most known for, “Welo”. Marcus would have two more granddaughters, Raven and Regan, and always told everyone who would listen all about ‘his girls’.
Whether it was being front row at beauty pageants, waiting patiently on a mall bench while the girls shopped, washing their cars, or making daily breakfast runs, Welo lived a life of service to “his girls” and he wouldn't have had it any other way.
Marcus “Welo” Faulkner, a true American hero and servant of God, walked like Christ with joy and acceptance for every human with love and a wish for the prosperity of all. His special brand of joy made everyone feel warm and welcome, not just in his home but in his heart as well. His family- his greatest love as evidenced by his sacrifice and immeasurable amount of devotion. He knew beyond any doubt that he was loved.
Marcus leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Concha; daughter, Maria (Susie) Faulkner; three granddaughters: Rachel Lane and husband, Justin, Raven Chavez and Regan Chavez; a great-grandson, Faulkner; two brothers: Lawson Faulkner and John Lindsey Faulkner; special nieces: Cathy Gonzalez and Selena Franco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Elizabeth Bradshaw and Belinda Ward and two brothers: Guy Ray Faulkner, II and William Faulkner.
