Mrs. Linda “Gail” Pope Smith, 72, of 625 Parker Memorial Rd., passed away Wednesday, March 1st 2023 at home, with her loving family by her side.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 pm at Owen Grove PFWB Church with Rev. Kim Strickland and Rev. Ivan Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church; and other times at her home.
Born on October 5, 1950, Gail was the daughter of the late Nathan Howell Pope and Julia Mae Honeycutt Pope. She grew up in Sampson County and was a graduate of Midway High School. She retired from Clinton Appliance & Furniture Company and was a lifelong member of Owen Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She was the Choir Director and the Sunday School Teacher for the Young Adult Class “The Rejects”. She was loved by her church family, because everyone there knew how much Gail truly cared about each and every one of them, and was always there with a helping hand - No matter the need. Gail loved her church, her friends, but more than anything else, she loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. They were her whole world, and she was theirs. She will be greatly missed.
Gail leaves behind her husband, Ray of the home; her daughter: Tina S. Montgomery and husband, James of Clinton; her daughter-by-heart, Beverly Edwards (Chris Phillips) of Clinton; her six grandchildren: Kayla Davis (C.P.), Derrick Lockamy (Makayla), Jamie Tew (Jonathan), Madison Montgomery (Kenny), Lucus Montgomery and Matthew Montgomery; and was also blessed with two great-grandchildren: Avery Davis and Ashton Davis.
In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Ray Smith, and her siblings: sisters: Annelle Mercer, Sue Brigman and brother, Glenn Pope.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of 3HC Hospice for their outstanding care of Mrs. Gail, especially to Yvette, who always went above and beyond.
Royal-Hall is honored to serve the Smith family.
