Lillian Matthis Herring, 101, of 311 Fisher Drive passed away at Mary Gran Nursing Center Thursday, September 30, 2021.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 5th at 2pm in the Clinton Cemetery with Rev. Don Matthis officiating.

Born in 1920 in Sampson County, Mrs. Herring was the daughter of Edwin Beatty and Maybell Balkcum Matthis. She married James Craig Herring, Sr. and they owned and operated Craig’s Cottages at White Lake for thirty years. She also helped her husband farm and was a homemaker. Mrs. Herring was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in her circle and prayer garden. What gave her the most joy in her life were her children and grandchildren.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: Her husband James Craig Herring, Sr., one sister: Louise Moore, three brothers: Thurman Matthis, Norman (Monk) Matthis, and Lee Grady Matthis.

 She is survived by: two sons: James Craig Herring, Jr. (Carolyn) of Clinton, Edwin Alexander Herring (Robin) of White Lake; three grandchildren:  Michelle Herring of Clinton, Ashley Finch (Jordan) of Clayton, Alex Venters (Edward) of Emerald Isle and one great granddaughter, Lillian Grace Finch.
