Larry Shipp, 72, of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2025. Born on May 26, 1952, in Sampson County, NC, Larry grew up in Clinton, NC, but spent most of his life in Cary with his beloved wife, Jo, of 33 years. He was the son of the late John Allen and Sallie Bass Shipp of Clinton.
Larry began his career as a salesman before discovering his true passion for residential appraising, eventually earning his Master Senior Appraiser certification. An avid water skier, Larry shared his love of watersports and boating with his three stepchildren, creating cherished memories on Lake Royale, Lake Gaston, and Jordan Lake. He especially enjoyed time on his houseboat, Shippmates.
Known for his gift of gab, Larry never met a stranger and always greeted others with a smile. He was a devoted husband, a true gentleman, and a loving bonus dad to his three stepchildren. His favorite role was as a granddad to his six grandchildren, affectionately known as Pal. Larry had a green thumb and loved tending to his yard, planting flowers and plants, and feeding wildlife, including turtles, in his backyard on Kildaire Lake.
Larry is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Partin-Shipp; stepdaughters Laura Couch (Brandon) and children Brayden and Cameron of Pittsboro, NC, and Joanna Morgan (Mike) and children Reagan, Reese, and Rivers of Myrtle Beach, SC; stepson Richard White (Jenna) and son James of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by siblings Josephine Clifton (Vernon), June McLemore (Norbert), and Melvin “Biscuit” Shipp (Gaynelle), all of Clinton, along with extended family whom he adored.
Larry's life will be celebrated at Royal-Hall Funeral Home’s Chapel in Clinton at 4:00 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025. The family will receive friends following the service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Senior CommUnity Care of North Carolina, PACE Program, 5400 S. Miami Blvd. Suite 150 Durham, NC 27703.
From Larry: My mind may forget you, but my heart never will.
