Mary Kathryn Rice Bass, 75, of 300 E. Johnson St., passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, at Kitty Askins of Goldsboro.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, at 2:00 PM at the Clinton Cemetery with Dr. Steven Keesecker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

Born on November 29, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, Kathy was the granddaughter of the late Mossette and Nettie Hobbs and the daughter of the late Clark Earl Rice and Mildred Lee Hobbs and was the widow of Dr. Fred Chisholm and Allen James “A.J.” Bass, Jr. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse until her retirement.

Kathy is survived by her son, Alex Chisholm of the home; two daughters: Susannah Chisholm Carter, and husband, Bryan of Mt. Pleasant, SC., and Miriam Abney of Landrum, SC.; sister, Brenda Greene of Greenville, SC.; three grandchildren: Kathryn Carter, Emma Carroll Carter, and Wells Smith.

Kathy was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Buckner.
