Juanita McLamb gained her angel wings on May 26, surrounded by her loving family. Just one week earlier, on May 19, she celebrated her 90th birthday. She enjoyed a 12 day ‘birthday extravagza’ where she was celebrated and loved on by many, many friends and family.
To many, 90 years may seem like a long life, but to those blessed enough to know and love Juanita, it still feels far too short. Her life was one of faith, service, hard work, and unconditional love, leaving a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.
Juanita was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Throughout her life, she faithfully served on numerous church committees and could always be found whenever the church doors were open. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and was evident in the kindness and compassion she showed others.
Juanita was married to the love of her life, Robert Glenn McLamb, for 45 wonderful years. Together they built a beautiful family and shared a life rooted in love and dedication. She was the proud mother of two children, Teresa “Terri” McLamb Barbee (Joel) and Michael Glenn McLamb (Denise).
While Juanita loved her children dearly, nothing brought her greater joy than talking about her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to brag on them to anyone willing to listen. She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Daniel Wayne McLamb (Jesse) and Faith Olivia McLamb, as well as three great-grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. Juanita is also survived by her brother Steely Siler Green, Jr. (Jan). Family was undoubtedly one of Juanita’s proudest accomplishments and greatest blessings.
Raised with humble beginnings in Kentucky to Steely Siler Green Sr. & Gracie Mae Hayes Green, Juanita understood the value of hard work from an early age. She began her nursing career in 1958 in Nashville, Tennessee and worked in hospitals in Chicago, Detroit, Goldsboro, and Clinton, and continued serving others through her nursing work at various industrial locations, including Lundy’s and Mohasco. She also received her B.S in Nursing from UNC Chapel Hill.
Later in life, alongside her beloved identical twin sister, Anita, Juanita embarked on a new chapter by opening two bed and breakfasts in town: The Shield House and Court House Inn. These establishments became treasured landmarks and pillars of the Sampson County community. Following the passing of her husband, Juanita and Anita sold the inns so she could devote even more time to the family she loved so dearly.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn McLamb, her twin sister- Anita Joan Green Mother and Father- Steely Green Sr. and Gracie Green. While her family grieves her absence deeply, they find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with them in her eternal home. Juanita’s legacy of faith, love, strength, and devotion will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
