Joyce Guinn Melson

Joyce Guinn Melson died at her home in Clinton on May 26, 2023.  

 She was born in Sampson County to Millard and Myrtle Guinn on May 2, 1929. She was the oldest living and founding member of Immanuel Baptist Church.  Because of her love of reading, she worked at the J.C. Holiday Library for several years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.  She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter, and loved spending as much time with them as possible.  She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her – because to know her, was to love her.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband A.W. “Wink” Melson and siblings, Larry D. Guinn, Wilma G. Brown, and Carole G. Robinson.   She is survived by her children, Gail M. Catena (Robert) of Fayetteville, Patricia L. Melson of Clinton, grandchildren Susan W. (William) Peppers, Christopher N. (Kate) McMillan all residing in Jacksonville, FL, Stacey C. Barr of Fayetteville, great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cassidy, Cohen, Jackson, and Cameron, and her great-great-granddaughter Maci Gray.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Rev. William Matthews and Rev. Greg Presnal officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and other times at her home.
