Mrs. Joy Ann Herring Byrd, 79, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Harnett Woods Nursing & Rehab Center in Dunn.
Born on April 4, 1944, Joy was the daughter of the late Theodore Herring and Olive Hobson Herring. She was retired from Sampson Regional Medical Center as their receptionist, but never really stopped working in the community that she loved so well. She worked at the Sampson County Register of Deeds Office for a while and also volunteered for the Sampson County Board of Elections. She always had a smile on her face and something nice to say to brighten your day. Joy loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughters, who were her whole world. She will definitely be missed. But never forgotten.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Sulse and husband, Louis of Clinton; two grandchildren: Bradley Sulse (Tiffany), Brooke Tyler (Dylan); great-granddaughters: Katlin Sulse and Serena Sulse; and two brothers: Ted Herring of Clinton and Dennis Herring of Dunn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy Herring and Dwight Herring.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the incredible care shown to Mrs. Joy during her stay at Harnett Woods in Dunn. The nurses and staff there were always outstanding and they can’t thank you enough!
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ray Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow at Plain View PFWB Church Cemetery.
Visitation with family and friends will be held prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 pm, at the funeral home; and other times at the home of her daughter, Tammy, located at 175 Stormy Lane, Clinton.
Royal-Hall is honored to serve the Byrd family.
