John "Rick" Richard Reece

Mr. John Richard (Rick) Reece, 86, most recently of Newport, NC and formerly of Clinton, NC, passed away on March 28, 2022 at Hospice House of Newport, NC.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clay Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born in 1935 in Guilford County, Rick was the son of the late Luther Reynolds Reece and Grace Mitchell Reece.  Rick began his adulthood in the U.S. Navy. During this time in the Navy, he was a deep-sea diver and a boxer.  After leaving the Navy, his love of music took him to the career of booking entertainment throughout North Carolina. Rick loved music, especially Beach Music, and the popular dance called, the “Shag”.  Rick was also known to spend time with some well-known musicians including Elvis, The Tams, and Chubby Checker.  He could tell numerous stories about the many entertainers he had met during his life.  Rick also loved playing golf.  He played many rounds of golf and he loved to talk about his five hole-in-ones.  Later, he worked at the International Minute Press and loved to deliver the finished print materials to his customers. 

Rick is survived by his fiancee’, Jo Odham of Newport, NC; two granddaughters: Raven McChesney of Austin, Texas and Slone Reece of Florida; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Britt of Myrtle Beach, SC; and a step son-in-law, Rob Hargrove of Myrtle Beach, SC.  Rick was preceded in death by wife, Yvonne Smith Reece; son, Ricky Reece and daughter, Victoria Reece Tosto. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.
