Mr. John Thomas Naylor, 87 of 903 Walking Stick Trail passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 2:00pm at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Will Matthews and Rev. Pedro Bueno officiating. Visitation will take place from 1:00pm-2:00pm at the church, with burial at Clinton Cemetery following the funeral service.
Born in 1936 in Chicago, IL., John was the son of the late Rev. Fernie William Naylor and Marieta Bell Naylor. John was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, having been a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer with the local prison ministry. John had a long career with North Carolina Transportation as Resident Engineer. After retirement he worked part time with Royal-Hall Funeral Home. John’s life was guided by his love for the Lord and passion for nature and the outdoors. When not preparing his Sunday school lesson, he spent as much time as possible walking trails, climbing to mountain tops, and paddling down rivers. He was a committed Boy Scout Leader, sharing his knowledge of the outdoors and spiritual testimony with anyone willing to listen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanna M. Naylor; two daughters: Martha Ann Cecka and husband, Eric and Rebekah Dey both of Raleigh; sister, Carolyn Pate of Birmingham, Alabama and three grandchildren: Ren Dey, Morgan Solodon, and Stella Cecka.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters: Helen Napp and Martha Naylor.
