Born in 1936 in Chicago, IL., John was the son of the late Rev. Fernie William Naylor and Marieta Bell Naylor. John was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, having been a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer with the local prison ministry. John had a long career with North Carolina Transportation as Resident Engineer. After retirement he worked part time with Royal-Hall Funeral Home. When not preparing his Sunday school lesson, he spent as much time as possible walking trails, climbing to mountain tops, and paddling down rivers. He was a committed Boy Scout Leader, sharing his knowledge of the outdoors and spiritual testimony with anyone willing to listen.
