Clinton, NC – John Troy Creech, 91, joined the Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Mary Gran Nursing Home.

John was born on November 1, 1934, in Johnston County to the late Hurbert and Mettie Creech. During his school years, he developed a love for all sports. He excelled in basketball, baseball, and football. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War serving as a Military Police Officer.

Following his military service, John earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University. He became a Physical Education Teacher, Driver’s Education Instructor, and a coach in the Chesterfield County Public School District in Virginia.

During retirement, John was a devoted and dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer who found joy on the course and loved watching all sports including his UNC Tarheels. He also enjoyed being outdoors, especially tending to his garden, where he took pride in growing tomatoes.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held Sunday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Will Matthews and Rev. Tim Ameen officiating. Family will receive visitation at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private interment will be held at Creech Cemetery in Smithfield, N.C.

John is survived by his wife, Edna C. Creech; stepson, Chris Cannady (Kimberly) of Clinton; step grandchildren, Krista Jarvis (Will) of Charlotte, Cameron Cannady of Clayton, and Rhiannon Preddy (Cody) of Clinton; siblings, Joyce Pitman of Pine Level and Ronnie Creech of Smithfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Creech; and siblings Pascal Creech, Howard Creech, Smith Creech and Hugh Creech.
