Mr. Jimmy Lee Powell, 68, of 2385 Wilmington Hwy., passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Novant Health-New Hanover Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the Funeral Home on Monday beginning at 6:00 PM and other times at his home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 26 at 7:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joseph Tew officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 27 at 11:00 AM at Wells Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in 1956 in Sampson County, Jimmy was the son of the late Johnnie Ashley and Mary Idella “Della” Smith Powell. Jimmy farmed and was a truck driver for Smithfield Foods with 25 years of service. Jimmy was an avid gardener and could always be found doing something outdoors, whether it be on his golf cart or his tractor. He loved to cook and was famous for his pineapple cake. He loved mowing his grass and keeping his yard looking perfect at all times. He loved his family and passing down his wealth of knowledge to his children and grandchildren.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Loretta Matthews Powell, of the home; daughter, Ashley Nicole Rezk, and husband, Mostafa of Willard; son, Jeremy Powell, and wife, Kristen of Willard; two sisters: Betty Powell Wilson, and husband, Dural of Turkey, and Mary Powell, and husband, Joe of Watha; two brothers: Johnnie Ray Powell and Charles Glenn Powell, and wife, Karen all of Harrells; four grandchildren: Kaylee Powell, Hunter Powell, Ashdan Stone, and Landan Stone; Jimmy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by two brothers: William Ashley Powell, and Russell C. Smith.
