Jay William “Paul” Daugherty, 87, of 308 E. Johnson St., passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice House of Goldsboro.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 14, at 2:00 PM at Bethany PFWB Church, 1068 Rackley Rd, with Rev. Charles Ray Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
Born on February 17, 1938, in Nacogdoches, Texas, Paul was the son of the late Julius Charles and Florence Elizabeth Wilhour Daugherty. He was a member of Bethany PFWB Church and spent his career as a supervisor with the Department of Social Services. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in Hampton, S.C. in 1956 and also graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, N.C. in 1960.
Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marieta “Elizabeth” Carr Daugherty of Clinton; daughter, Sharon Lynn Herring of Clinton; brother, Jimmy Daugherty of Hillsborough; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelby D. Guy; sister, Betty Jay Daniels.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Monday beginning at 1:00PM in the church Sanctuary, and other times at his home.
