Mr. James “Layton” Edwards, 86 of 213 Forest Trail passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 at The Magnolia of Clinton.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 5 at 3:00PM at Spirit of Life Church, 180 Overland Rd. with Rev. Darian Parker and Rev. Jerome Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.

Born on January 22, 1935 in Sampson County, Layton was the son of the late Jonah and Lula Cobb Edwards. He was a member of Spirit of Life Church and was active as long as his health permitted. Layton spent many years as a Jailer for Sampson County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement. He loved life and his family more than anything and will be greatly missed.

Layton is survived by his daughter, Beverly Edwards of Turkey; four sons: James Edwards, Ronnie Edwards, Donnie Edwards and Tommy Edwards and wife, Linda all of Clinton; two grandchildren: Kayla Davis and Derrick Lockamy; two great-grandchildren: Avery Davis and Ashton Davis; three sisters: Earline Vann of Clinton, Jean Johnson of Dunn and Bonnie Giddens of Mt. Olive; brother, M.B. Edwards of Clinton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Larry Edwards and Russell Edwards; sister, Nannie Westbrook.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the Funeral beginning at 2:00PM at Spirit of Life Church.
