James "Jimmy" Moore, Jr Obituary

James F. (Jimmy) Moore Jr.  12/15/38 - 9/27/24

Mr. James Franklin “Jimmy” Moore, Jr. 85, of 3009 Garland Hwy, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family and caretakers.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 30 at 2:00 PM at First Methodist Church, 208 Sampson St., with Rev. Matt Seals officiating.  Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

Born on December 15, 1938, in Sampson County, Jimmy was the son of the late James Franklin Moore, Sr. and Evangeline Hobbs Moore.  He was a life-long resident of Clinton, N.C., and raised on the family farm.  Following graduation as a Dark Horse, he went on to attend Louisburg College, before deciding to join the Army.  He went through basic training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC and served in the National Guard for several years.

He returned to the family farm in 1960, where he married his high school sweetheart, Becky Butler.  They had two sons, James F. Moore III, and Jon Scott Moore.

Jimmy’s passion was farming, and he took over the farm at the early age of 30, after the sudden death of his dad. Nothing satisfied Jimmy more than planting, raising, and harvesting a successful crop. In his later years, one of his favorite past times was riding through the countryside, admiring the landscape and fields of crops.

Jimmy was a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge for over 60 years, serving as Master in 1976.  He was also a member of Sudan Shriners, receiving his 50-year service award in August last year.  Additionally, he was a member of the Scottish Rite.

Jimmy is survived by his two sons:  James F. (Jim) Moore, (Lynne), Jon Scott Moore (Julie), his special friend, Violet White, his grandchildren, Clay Moore, Matthew Halbach (Alyssa), Eric Halbach (Linda), Katelyn Hester (Jamie), and great-grandchildren Brooklyn Halbach, Nicholas Halbach, Lily Hester, and Mason Hester, sister, Carolyn Ballard of New Bern and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to his dedicated and loyal group of caregivers, who have faithfully stood by and supported him over the last five years:  Stephanie Carr, Crystal Jacobs, Linda Jacobs, Constance Stewart, and the late Glenda Becton.  Truly his angels here on earth!

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.
