James "Jim" Mathews Obituary

Mr. James (Jim) Robert Mathews, 86, of 101 Bucktown Road, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 21, at 2:00 PM at Royal Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul Montecinos officiating. 

Born on December 27, 1939, in Connecticut, Jim was the son of the late Raymond Henry and Mary Louise DeSantis Mathews. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and a retired maintenance employee.  

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathleen D. Mathews; a daughter, Mary Kay Harnois (Richard) of Rhode Island; a son James Robert Mathews, Jr. (Dawn) of Massachusetts; a sister, Christine Belletti of Connecticut; a brother, Eugene Mathews of Indiana; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Atkins and four brothers, Leon DeSantis, Edward Mathews, Thomas Mathews, and John Mathews.  

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 PM, and other times at his home.

The family would like to thank SECU Hospice House for their care and support during this time.
