James "Jim" Dale Obituary

James William Dale of Godwin, N.C. passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, the 6th of April, surrounded by those who loved him.

Jim was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on the 20th of December, 1947 to Marion Wayne Dale and Rula Brooks.

He was the second of four children, two boys and two girls. Jim had the opportunity to travel the world with his family because his father was a career military man. He lived in Germany, France, Georgia, Colorado, and California. He toured Europe for a year when he turned 18 and then served a mission in Uruguay for his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon his return to the United States, he found himself in Fayetteville, N.C. In just a few months he was drafted into the Army and when they found out he could type, he was assigned to be a court reporter for military trials. When Jim finished his assignment in the Army, he used the GI bill to further his education at Pitt Community College where he earned a computer science degree and then went on to East Carolina University where he earned an accounting degree. He would later become the internal auditor for the university and served in that capacity for a number of years. Jim was very good with auditing and was asked by his church headquarters to serve as the controller for the South East area of Welfare farms that the church owned. After spending about five years with service to the church, he came back to North Carolina and worked at the Employment Security Commission in Raleigh. He enjoyed a brief stint as the Business Officer for the North Carolina Justice Academy located in Salemburg, N.C. and finally ended his career with the Office of Health and Human Services in Raleigh.

He is survived by his wife, Lavella Register Dale; one brother, Marion Wayne Dale; three children, Amy Rosado, James William Dale II and wife, Mandi, and Kerri Leland along with eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Thursday, April 10th at 6 p.m. at the Dunn Ward Building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2305 W. Cumberland St. Dunn, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service in the cultural hall.
