Howard Hobson, of 207 Deer Track Trail, Clinton, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
Howard was born on April 30th, 1940, in Raeford, N.C. He graduated from Hoke County High School in 1958, and was the first member of his family to attend college, receiving a BS in soil science from N.C. State University. Howard proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962.
Howard was employed as a District Conservationist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture serving the farming community for thirty years. After retiring from the U.S.D.A., he was employed for ten years as Senior Technical Specialist with Carroll’s Foods.
Howard served as president of the Clinton Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an active member of First Methodist Church in Clinton where he taught the Ted Parker Sunday School class for many years.
An avid nature lover, Howard enjoyed boating and fishing, especially along the Pungo River. He also loved attending NC State football and basketball games with family and friends.
Howard was predeceased by his parents, Stacy and Irene Hobson, a brother, David Lewis Hobson, an infant daughter, Kathryn, and a nephew, Bill Guy, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Langdon Hobson, his son, David Howard Hobson and wife, Jana of Clinton; a sister, Helen Huffman and husband, Linwood of Raeford; and a brother, Bill Guy Sr. and wife Edna Rose of High Point. Finally, he is survived by his beloved granddaughters, Emma Langdon Hobson and Kate Norris Hobson.
A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church in Clinton at 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 26th, followed by a graveside service with full military honors at Clinton City Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery.
