Mr. Ronald “Horace” Thornton, 79, of 1205 Panhandle Rd., passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.
Born on February 27, 1945, in Sampson County, Horace was the son of the late Hubert Ira and Dorthy Darden Thornton. He enjoyed tilling the ground and spent many years as a farmer. He was also an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. Horace was a retired Firefighter, former Assistant Chief and former Chief of Hall’s Fire Department. After retirement, he spent as much time as he could with his family, especially his grandkids, who were his heart. He will be greatly missed.
Horace is survived by his daughter, Lori T. Stegal, and husband Neal of Faison; granddaughter, Caitlyn Stegal, and grandson, Patrick Stegal. He also leaves behind a sister, Joyce T. Clifton, and husband Charles of Clinton; and brother, Victor Thornton of Carrollton, VA.
In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by two brothers: Roy Douglas Thornton, and L.H. Thornton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Beasley officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, March 29th at Royal-Hall Funeral Home, from 6-8 pm; and other times at his home.
