Mrs. Hilda Coley Lindsay, 86, of 1740 Hobbton Hwy, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Kitty Askins of Goldsboro with her family by her side.
Funeral Services to honor her life will be held Saturday, June 22 at 3:00 PM at Clinton Community Church with Reverends Mark Fields, Andy Shaffer, Chuck Gentry, and Clark Brooking officiating. She will be laid to rest at Clinton Cemetery following the service.
Hilda, born in 1937, was the daughter of Henry A. and Mary Jones Coley. She was also the widow of her husband, Jesse Lee Lindsay. After completing her education at Piney Grove School, where she attended for 12 years, Hilda married her high school sweetheart, Jesse, in a joint wedding with their close friends Moses and Geraldine King.
Throughout her life, Hilda was deeply involved in her church community. She dedicated herself to various roles such as teaching Sunday School, participating in youth ministries, and singing. One of her greatest joys was singing and traveling with Jesse, Moses, and Samuel King in a quartet.
For many years, Hilda was an active member of Goshen PH Church. Later on, she joined Clinton Community Church where she contributed to fundraising efforts, Wednesday night dinners, and Outreach ministries. While primarily a homemaker, Hilda also worked part-time at the family owned Piggly Wiggly stores. At home, she found pleasure in gardening, baking, decorating cakes, and writing poetry.
Above all, Hilda cherished her family, finding immense pride and joy in her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Hilda is survived by her son, Michael Lindsay (Dana) of Clinton and three daughters: Gayla L. Hitchings (David) of Raleigh, Saundra L. Reece (Randall) of High Point, and Cheryl L. Brooking (Clark) of Ellicott City, MD; fourteen grandchildren: Jonathan Lindsay (Stephanie), Ashley Hunt (Jason), Brooke Tedder, Daniel McKay, Katelyn O’Neal, Hunter Hitchings (Deborah), Lauren Lucas (McLean), Jamison Keller (Mark), Coley, Shelby, and Jesse Reese, Russell, Carson, and Lincoln Brooking; fifteen Great-grandchildren: Rylee, Gunner, Ava, Eli, and Tyler Hunt, Aiyana Lindsay, Wesley and Brian Royal, Harper Caison, Hudson and Holden Tedder, Rhett and Ivy McKay, Roby Keller, and Theodore Lucas; sister, Janet C. Cottle (Ned) of Goldsboro.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jesse, Hilda was preceded in death by five sisters: Henrietta Tew, Edna McLemore, Mildred Lancaster, Rachel Daniels, and Faye Jackson; and two brothers: James Coley, and Earl Coley.
The family will receive friends prior to the services on Saturday beginning at 1:30 and other times at her home.
Hilda will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
