Mr. Hayward Smith, 79, of 1000 Raleigh Rd., passed away peacefully Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 13, at 3:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lynn Blackburn officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
Born in 1942 in Donalsonville, GA., Hayward was the son of the late Duke and Blanche Whitaker Smith and the widower of Nan Casey Smith. Hayward served in The United States Army and was a proud Veteran. He was a retiree of Sprint Telephone Company. He loved and adored his family and his grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him.
Hayward is survived by his son, Casey Smith of Kinston, daughter, Anna Smith DeVaul, and husband, Dr. Chanson DeVaul of Goldsboro, three sisters: Helen Earnest of Enterprise, AL., Barbara McDowell and husband, James of Andalusia, AL., Ginger McDowell of Bainbridge, GA.; brother, Edward Smith of Bainbridge, GA., two grandchildren: Chandler Grant DeVaul and Addison Grace DeVaul.
In addition to his parents and wife, Nan, Hayward is preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret Smith, Linda Faye Rathel, and brother, Maxie Smith.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Royal-Hall Funeral Home, and other times at his home.
