George Matthew Jones, 54, of Cartertown Rd, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, with his loving family by his side.
Born on October 14, 1968 in South Carolina, George was the son of Paul Everett Jones and Shirley Barefoot Jones. He was a carpenter all his life and worked hard to provide for his family, doing all he could to do anything for anyone who needed a helping hand. He always enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing. He loved nothing better than having a fishing pole in his hand. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of thirty-six years, Melinda M. Jones; son, Nick Jones and wife, Heather of Dunn; daughter, Heather Jones of Clinton; brother, David Jones and wife, Wendy of Faison; sister, Angie Kittrell and husband, David of Goldsboro; father, Paul Everett Jones and wife, Sandra of Clinton, mother-in-law, Susie McGee Stone of Clinton, and sister-in-law, Harriet Brinson and husband, Phillip of Goldsboro. He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Jackson & Sunshine Harper, Finley and Callen Jones and Remi Saunders.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Barefoot Jones, niece, Morgan Jones and nephew, Thomas Jones.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 3rd at the Royal-Hall Chapel Rev. Danny Johnson and Rev. David Jones officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home; and other times at his home.
