Born in 1937 in Sampson County, NC she was the second of the “Five Bass Girls”, all daughters of the late Cuma Jackson Carter and Granville Talmadge Bass. She was the lifelong loving wife of her childhood Sweetheart, Zack Jr., or “Coonie” as everyone knows!
Faye is survived by her two sons: Zack McCullen III and wife, Dottie of Clinton, and Granville Tracy McCullen and wife, Heather of Raleigh; grandson, Zack “Zeke” McCullen IV and wife, Natalie; two granddaughters: Mary Brown and Emily Catherine McCullen; two great-grandchildren: Hugh and Holt McCullen; three sisters: Ann Starling of Clinton, Kaye Bryan of Asheboro, and Vicki Britt and husband, Danny of Clinton. Faye is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends whom she dearly loved.
In addition to her parents and husband, Faye was preceded in death by her dear oldest sister, Patricia Bass Shipp, and stepfather, Robert Carter.
Faye was a dedicated lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Clinton, a member of her Faith Sunday School Class, a lifetime choir member, and a deacon and served on too many committees to attempt to list. One of her favorite things in life was directing weddings which she did many times.
Faye retired from Sprint Corporation, “her phone office”, after completing a remarkable 44-year career of dedicated service to a company and group of individuals she dearly loved! Faye always shared her beautiful smile and her sweet and kind words for everyone! She was one of the most giving ladies in our world, specifically making sure lots of the underprivileged kids could share in the Joys of Christmas mornings.
In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to Tim’s Gift, 108 NE Blvd. Clinton, NC, or your favorite charity. Many special thanks are extended to the loving, most incredible, and caring staff of The Landings of Smithfield, NC.
