Ms. Esther Lee Matthews Mitchell, 82, of 303 Harmony Church Road passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center of Fayetteville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 3:00 PM at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John Hobbs and Rev. Dudley Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Born in 1942 in Sampson County, Esther was the daughter of the late Leon Ester and Ercell King Matthews and the widow of William Edward “Billy” Mitchell. Esther was a faithful member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where she attended as her health permitted.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Karen Mitchell Randleman, and husband, Kyle of Salemburg; her son, William “Scott” Mitchell of Clinton; she is also survived by five grandchildren whom she adored: Ty Randleman, Kate Randleman, Jenna Mitchell, Abby Mitchell, and Emma Mitchell.
In addition to her parents and husband, Billy, Esther was preceded in death by her sister, Julia Grey Hall.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary and other times at the home of Karen & Kyle Randleman, 134 Carly Lane, Salemburg, NC.
