Mr. Elwood G. “Bobby” Carr passed away peacefully at his home the morning of Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 25, at 2:00 PM at Bethany PFWB Church with Rev. Charles Ray Jernigan and Rev. Ben Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
Bobby was born in Sampson County on October 23, 1940, to the late Huey Frank Carr and Reva Paul Carr. He married his lovely wife Hilda Johnson Carr and spent 63 years with her by his side. Bobby was always an entreprenaur at heart, with his first love being used cars. He would often speak of the cars he once owned, and the ones he wished he had kept. He would move on to construction and not only ran a business, but made sure to pass down his knowledge to anyone willing to listen. He was a member of Bethany Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He could often be caught picking fun or joking with various family members and winking to another to let them know to play along. He was happiest when he could spoil one of his “babies” and see them smile. Everything he did was for the benefit of his family, and was always only a phone call away.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Hilda Johnson Carr; children: Joe Dabbs and Kimberly Townsend (Edward) all of Clinton; grandchildren: Amy Dabbs-Cottle (Brian), Tiffany Townsend, and Aaron Townsend (Arianna) all of Clinton; great-grandchildren: Collin Townsend, Cameron Pope, and Chandler Pope; Sisters: Elizabeth Daugherty (Paul), and Dorothy Pigford of Clinton; brother, WF Carr (Geraldine) of Clinton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; last but not least he leaves behind his five lb. guard dog, Roxie.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his siblings: Donald Carr and Jeanette Beasley.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday beginning at 1:00 PM in the Church Sanctuary and other times at his daughter’s home, 5790 Faison Hwy., Clinton, NC.
