Mrs. Ellen Gray Knowles Murphy, 89, of 1006 Raleigh Rd., passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Shook officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 PM. 

Born on September 11, 1934, in Wayne County, Mrs. Murphy was the daughter of the late James Daniel and Ruby Ester Strickland Knowles. She was a retired supervisor with Clinton Sewing Co., a sewing instructor at Sampson Community College and a member of Grove Park Baptist Church having been a member of the church choir. She was the widow of J. P. Murphy.

She is survived by three sons, James Ronnie Murphy, and wife, Lynn of Pinehurst. Danny Joe Murphy and wife, Jan of Greenville and Kerry Lynn Murphy of Clinton. Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Wise. Brother, James Caroll Knowles.
