Obituary

Mr. Elbert Cannady, of Clinton, passed away on March 2, 2023, at Transitions Lifecare of Raleigh, at the age of 90, with his loving family by his side.

Funeral Services will be held  Sunday, March 5th at 3:00 pm at Mintz Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Smith and Dr. Robert Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 pm, in the church sanctuary; and other times, at his home.

Born on April 2, 1932 in Sampson County, Elbert was the son of the late Anson and Mildred Page Cannady. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Laura Jane Autry “Janie” Cannady.  Mr. Elbert was a hard-working man his entire life, and together he and Janie owned many businesses, including Cannady’s Well Drilling, Cannady’s Water Conditioning, Cannady’s Bargain Center, and Dogwood Acres Trailer Park. Wherever you saw Elbert, you were sure to see Mrs. Janie. They were sweethearts from day one, and rarely apart.  They were also active members of Mintz Baptist Church of Roseboro and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Mr. Elbert was such a likable man, that as soon as you met him, you knew you had a friend for life. He was always smiling and had a positive outlook, living life to the fullest, alongside Mrs. Janie.  He had a heart of gold and will forever be remembered by all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. Because to know him, was to love him.

Elbert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Janie Autry Cannady of the home; brother, Quincy Cannady and wife, Becky of Hampstead; special sister-in-law, Betty Carter, Aunt, Margie Page; special cousin, Linda Chestnutt.  He was also blessed with many nieces, nephews and extended family members and his special friends, who were more like family: Debbie Tew (Howard), Wanda Bleacher (Jeff), Renee Gallagher (Joe) and Jeremy Gallagher (Miranda).

In addition to his parents, Elbert was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Cannady and brother-in-law, Larry Carter; and other family members.
