Mr. Donald Neil Matthews, 71, of 162 N Parkersburg Ave., passed away January 14, 2026, at Wake Medical Center of Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19, at 11:00 AM at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Faison Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Born in 1954 in Sampson County, Neil was the son of the late Willie Francis and Dorothy Lane Matthews. He attended Clinton Family Worship Center and retired as a grain loader with Carrolls Mill.

Neil is survived by his significant other, Ellen Norris of the home; daughter, Misty Wood, and husband, Rory, of Maury, NC; three grandchildren: Trey, Lucas, and Joseph Wood all of Maury, NC; brother, Danny Harold Matthews of Turkey; cousin, Gloria Gillespie of Clinton; three nieces: Elizabeth Furmidge, April Powell and Amber Rich and their children were dear to him; and his best friend, Larry Jackson.

In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his sister, Lynette Matthews and brother, David Wayne Matthews.
