Clinton
Mr. Donald Keith Hollingsworth, 96, of 1064 HB Lewis Road, Clinton NC and 6809 Hampton Bend Circle, Owens Cross Roads AL, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024, in Huntsville Alabama.
Don was born to Ibey Oscar and Annie Lucille Hollingsworth on September 5, 1927. He graduated from Clinton High School, attended Pineland College, and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member and former deacon of Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Don loved Doris, his wife of 73 years, and he loved his farm. Except for his time in the Army, he spent his whole life on the family farm until Doris’s death 4 months ago. Don’s stewardship of the farm was the abiding focus of his life – his vocation, his hobby, and his passion. Generations of young farmers sought him out as a mentor and advisor. In his younger days, he enjoyed surf fishing off the North Carolina coast in the fall when the harvest was in. In his last years, he found satisfaction in keeping his yard and pasture in pristine condition with the help of his good friends, Gene Parsons and Donald Hopkins. In his last months, he lived with Don and Doris’s son, Dr. D. Keith Hollingsworth, Jr. (wife, Martha) of Huntsville, Alabama, and, always the farmer, he taught them how to raise tomatoes.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother Ibey Oscar Hollingsworth, Jr. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, by two nieces, Cathy Crawley Ellington (husband, Willis) and Glenda Hunley Gray, and by nephew Clay Crawley.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held Thursday, June 13, at 3:00 PM at the Clinton City Cemetery with Rev. Katie Rives officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the cemetery.
The family would like to thank our dear friends and caregivers for their steadfast efforts and loving attention during the last two years Don and Doris lived at home.
Memorials may be made to Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church, 201 Fayetteville St., Clinton NC 28328.
Royal-Hall Funeral Home of Clinton is honored to serve the Hollingsworth family.
